Been a busy bee in that workshop haven't you - does the saw miss the extra 25psi or is it as fast still?

After playing with the transfers some more(19* blow down now), and adding more intake, she's a bit more zippy. I am hoping some of that intake translates to torque in the wood. We'll see how she does once she' buried in that beech. I gotta say though - that beech is rock hard. I wouldn't expect the show it gave in that maple. Looking at the plug, I can lean her out a touch more as well.

Don't forget to tell your insurance company about your tuning mods!!!!!

ps joke! I run a KDX 220 crosser, tuned and ported , not tried tuning my chainsaw yet!!

I am very impressed with bike tuners. It takes a lot of work and know-how to have them running well.

  • 2 weeks later...

Been out collecting a bit of firewood, dead fallen Ash, Hawthorn and Elm, I had forgotten just how good my ported 357XP actually is, explosive power, no bogging - lots of fun.

Been porting a 390XP Husky, the figures standard were

Exhaust Duration - 172*

Transfer Duration - 120*

Intake Duration - 150*

Blowdown - 26*

I decided to widen the inlet an exhaust ports - the upper rear transfers were widened to help scavanging and raised a little to lower that blowdown figure and extend the time the transfers are open and flowing fuel/air vapour for more charge per pop.

The muffler has had an extra outlet put in it:thumbup:

Nice one. I did a bit of cutting today and noticed the 2165/2177 big bore was pulling pretty strong. It'd been about 20 tanks or so, so I went ahead and put her under the gauge. She blew north of 190 psi. Not bad.

Trying sumfin new. Instead of putting bank into a lightweight 24" Sugi(which is well over a 100 Euro or so by the time it lands on my shores), I went with a 60 Euro delivered 25" Rollomatic E. It weighs nearly what a Sugi lightweight does. It won't last quite as long, but I still usually get a few years out of them.

Here she is on the 361R, 84DL 75JGX full skip Oregon chain. Oiler isn't even turned up yet and she still oils well(old style oiler holes as this is a NOS Rollo E - '5321' series, I think). I still need to replace the impulse line as this one is set up for the old 044 carb she used to wear, so not as responsive as I would like out of this size ported saw. I found with the 044 carb there was not much difference in power on the typical bars and RPM's I use a saw with, only a difference in fuel :(

Doubtful, but I'd go toe to toe with a 461 if I got to modify my chain...

Here's the 2165 with a 77cc ported kit on it in the same wood for comparison - similar compression, too, but much lower rakers on a well worn chain. I'm swearing at the start because I can not start the thing with my left hand without the decomp on due to the compression:
