362xp special

Anyone ever had much to do with them? I know they aren't that common etc prob due to being the smallest of the range and also against the 372...

Until today ive never taken much notice of them but never realised they where in the xp range. Already got a 365 special and 372 xp which are basically the same except the top end but the 362 appears to be possibly open ported and some where made to use the smaller bar fitting as per the 346-357 range saws.

Seems strange to have an open ported 362xp yet the 365 closed port (special non-XP) wouldn't lose to it if they went head to head. Weight difference is likely to be within oz's of each other.

When you compare it to the 346xp v 350 or 357xp v 359 etc...

Bought one today but not got my grubby mitts on it yet.. Who knows what may happen tho as ive got a oe ported 365 top end sitting on the shelf and a 75cc kit next to it, and a ported muffler and now thinking about if ive got a short bar that may fit.... :001_rolleyes:

The 362xps all were closed port - it was the early 365s that were open port. The 362xp had a closed port (but not quad) Gilardoni top end.

The original 362s all had the small mount, it was just the few "reintroduced" 2005 saws that had the large one. I believe those were a bit heavier as well, than the originals.

Eddy, I couldn't help myself when I saw xp and special on the same label on the starter cover lol.

My saw collection seems to be changing from stihl to husky! It looks tidy but until ive got it I cant tell if it was a bargain or not but it looks tidy. Was bought on a whim seeing a photo...

3/8 lp picco? If it is I can get full chisel stihl chain.

Thanks Boy English the info ive heard is seeming to match then. The earlier saws 2000-2005 appear to be small mount and 2006/2007 saws appear to be large mount.

The 365 specials are all large mounts.

After a bit more feed back from this Thread.

Bought a seized 362 XP Special and have rebuilt it with a 372 top end and open exhaust, Small mount bar so what pitch of chain would you run.

Personally I prefer the .325 on an 18" bar but it doesn't make much difference but more because ive usually got the 357 which uses the same chain so I can sharpen them at the same time with the same file etc. (not that I ever have but it would also allow me to swap bars/chains if needed)

I have the advantage tho if I need a bigger saw or I think it will struggle I just get out a bigger saw so not restricted trying to get as near as dammit the perfect 2 saw set up.

I try go by 15-18" .325

20-28" 3/8th

30"+ .404

Ive always found the above to work best for me

Thanks, what size toothed sprocket do you run.

Was not planning to run big bar as I have a 385xp and a 3120.

8 tooth on mine which is similar to yours but woods ported to so would easily pull a 20 and possibly a 24" bar but why kill a saw as you say when a bigger saw can just be used.

I run a 20" bar on my 385, 24/25" on 660 and above that x 4 394/395's with larger bars.

Ive always been tempted by a 3120 but keep trying to tell myself I don't need one but im weak and no doubt will get 1 next year :sneaky2: lol
