I'm new to the whole foraging edibles this year, but yesterday i came across three fungi while walking the dog.

A horse shroom, champignons, and some dodgy yellow stainers that i mistook for young field shrooms... Glad i did the stem check with those yellow buggers ;)

I found a clump of giant puffballs last week , took one to eat , fried a few bits in garlic butter , not a lot of taste to be honest , but wanted to try it , not exciting enough to bother again though !

Brilliant! Really glad this thread has popped up again. Haven't seen it before and was thinking of asking David if it would be OK to include possible edibles on the "Tis the season...." thread.

Keen on edibles but haven't found anyone local to bounce the ID's off before eating, just a bit nervous before flashing up the sauté pan!

First 2 Bay Bolete?

Then next 3 Shaggy Parasol?

Or am I miles out? :blushing:

First 2 pics look like bay boletes, generally boletus mushrooms are edible unless they're red skinned, I've eaten a fair few, but when I was a greenkeeper, the ones growing under pines, near bunkers were not so good. Found a fair few penny buns too, but never beat the maggots!

Second one looks like a shaggy parasol, but double check with a book

The whole book thing keeps me second guessing myself... The Only guy I know who I'd trust to help me id has moved to Glasgow, 340 miles away :/
