crane feeding chipper

Sorry mate back axle cornish speak for the hydraulics of the tractor, pull spool lever in to engage the crane, no seperate pump and tank for the crane. The farmi 260 I used behind mine the pto just drove the fly wheel of the chipper and you had to drive the rollers of it from the hydraulics of the tractor so I couldnt use the crane and the rollers at the same time hence no good, 550zx has own tank and pump on chipper to drive the rollers as far as i'm aware not all farmi 260 do unless they have changed the newer ones

550ZX would be the business!:thumbup1:

I chose the Farmi 260 purely on price as a whole package, plus the ability of the conveyor to help with feeding awkward gear.

It does have it's own Pump/Tank setup to provide feed for the rollers and conveyor.

It comes with hand control and also a nice set of foot pedals if you're feeding with a roof mount.

As I've said before, we're really careful with kit and I always feed it myself, so blade wear is excellent and apart from one bearing we've had no other issues.

Eddie.

what is the chip quality like as I am thinking of one for chipping for fuel for a boiler

Obviously you only get out what you put in, but decent blades, 1000 speed pto and just purely round timber from a stack it produces excellent consistent chip.

It also takes some feeding in this situation I can tell you, and as you can see from the video has no issues filling trailers or a shed.

Worthy of a look if you can get to see one in action.

Chipper mounted oil pump is an optional extra from farmi that's why they are a lower cost big chipper because the basic moddle is just that, basic and you can speck it up from that to be an all hydraulic machine if you want. Remember electronic roller controls and stress management are also optional extras but worth it if your going to crane feed. Excellent chipper and easy too work on and maintain.

As said if chipping clean roundwood with good blades you cam get very good quality chip but it's flat chip as opposed to a rounder chip produced by drum chippers so won't 'flow' quite as well.

a couple of jobs recently it would have been good to have a chipper behind my valmet. id want to be able to crane feed it.

ive been looking at the FARMI CH260

does anybody have any experience of crane feeding this machine

I have been using a Farmi 360 with a valtra 190 with a back axle mounted crane to power and feed it.

The farmi has its own hydraulic pump, belt driven from the pto and it also has an oil cooler fitted to the chipper. As others have mentioned a roof mounted crane would improve visability, I just raise the height of the seat.

The farmi copes really well with straight timber however struggles a bit with hawthorn in my experience. But as mentioned in an earlier post the blades being in good condition helps with feeding. I was struggling the other day and surprise surprise the outer blades were badly damaged.

I find it takes some turning over with the pto set in 1000rpm so I engage it in 540 and then shut down switch over to 1000 and engage again whilst the blades are spinning.

I have fed the chipper by hand (three lengths of timber) and it worried me so much I would not entertain it again. I certainly wouldn't ask anyone too either.

Not sure if the pedals for direction of the rollers come with the machine but are worth while investing in. :thumbup1:

  • 2 weeks later...

Very good on hardwood brash but has a bad habit of bundling up conifer behind the rollers if the blades are dull and wrapping stringy stuff like willow around the top roller.

Company I worked for had 2, 1crane fed on a t160 and the outher on a 1650mog.

If I had the need for a chipper in this size range it would prob be my 1st choice!
