oak speedline

Yesterdays job, removing a split limb from a large oak. Not used one before but on this job it seemed the best way, and actually worked quite well.

When you did the tops, did you tension the line to where you wanted it and leave it at that for most of the work, or were you slackening and tensioning the line for each piece?

 

To save you pushing an awkward back leaner like at about 3.20, you can get them to tension the line up enough to pull it over.

We slackened the line each time, the tops were being dropped a few metres so the shock load would have been a bit much for the speedline anchor point. We ran it through a pulley and tensioned it off the hobbs.

 

A tree, You could spend hours and hours editing videos, I just can't be arsed tbh, I probably spent a little over an hour on this one.

At 3.20 do you reckon it may have been an idea to attach the saw to the tree in case it pinched on the saw and took you with it?

Its not a huge piece, so not necessary really, its a feling cut anyway and they will never take the saw, its outboard stepcuts that can be risky and I only tend to use them when pruning small stuff to avoid splitting. In that clip the saw was draped over a stub I think and did'nt fall far.
