Tipper kits

Been looking at tipper kits. Prompted by another thread. :thumbup1:

 

Is 700mm lift enough???

 

Or would it need more. 700mm on the front of a chip box would be enough lift to tip chip easily would it?

 

What grade of a slope would that make?

 

Could move the ram towards the rear of the truck to get more angle I guess but that would mean the ton of preassure would go down aswell!

That's only one of the dimensions needed.

 

What's the distance from the hinge to the point the bottom of the ram attaches?

 

Moving the ram wont have any affect on the pressure, that's governed by the pump output.

If you mean the ram rises 700mm- then thats when it's important to know where it is located and how the mechanism works. I'm sure you know this and must be having a blonde moment. It's all that upping and downing in that boat:biggrin:

Yes it is john. The ram extends 700 but still has the other length of ram. So doubles it. Makes sense in my head.

How do you plan configuring it?

 

Single stage, but may change it with a few that are around the workshop. And there are a few.

 

Not sure on configuration as yet, as it's really in the very early stage, not really had a very good look at the hillux bed and need to start the plans for the box chassis to match the hillux chassis.

 

There is one cross member on the chassis that can be used but it's a round bar rather than section. So if this can't be used I will have to add a cross member to take the ram.

 

The kits come with everything else.

The classic design for a tipper is a hinged frame that bolts to the chassis with the ram operating between the 2 halves.

 

Its easy enough to fabricate your own

That's roughly the plan. I do have to move the fuel tank filler. As it runs into the old body. This will need a new mounting area. So in I'll have to build that aswell. The body that's on it is on a 4inch lift. It also has some big tyres. So will have to make some wheel arches into the box, maybe. It's a maybe as with the sub frame of the box it will lift the bottom of the box up. But with suspension travel it may become a problem.

 

So will need to put a ton in the back of the hillux to measure the travel properly.

 

The fabrication is the easy part. I have no problems doing this, just takes time to ensure everything is nice and square before the final weld up.

 

And a few measurements of the frames to ensure the ram will be able to sit where it needs to. And adding some spacers where the chassis bends and curves so the sub frame sits nice and square.

 

Form e the hardest part will be the fuel filler, may need to investigate if there are any issues with mot testing and it's position. I can't move it very far as the tank is high up on these anyway. But should be able to clear it under the box.

i mounted my ram an a new x member i welded across the front two original body mounts on mine.mk3 hilux.havent got w/arches in the body and is fine with a ton or two
