How are you getting on with your LogPro-FREE Biomass Firewood Kilns?

Are they performing as well as you expected.

Further up on this thread I explained why LogPro did not roll out. We have not been able to find an alternative solution that provided an acceptable return on investment for us and that worked effectively for the firewood supplier. We did test the Heizomat woodchip boiler and Lauber Lenz / Logpro Kiln system which we can highly recommend but sadly there was insufficient margin in this for both us AND the firewood supplier.

If there is a new kid on the block with a batch fed boiler that works then I wish them every success, failing that firewood suppliers may wish to look at the system mentioned above which, if they can finance it, would provide them with a highly effective drying system and a good ROI. I hope this helps..

If you do go down the Lenz system check the RHI implications as it may not be eligible.

If someone with your background is unable to generate 'sufficient margin' to make offering a Kiln in return for a proportion of RHI payments worthwhile, I would suggest it is highly unlikely anyone else would be able to.

Glen Farrow have a viable business model, as they have managed to convince people to generally borrow on finance and hand over the cash in full in return for a product, which at best is unproven and may be subject to scrutinisation by the RHI administrators in the not too distant future.

The small print in their Contract is there for their legal protection if things do not go well further down the line.

Everything is looking great at the moment for those with the installation up and running - I hope it lasts.

Is anyone using a glen farrow biomass kiln set up for drying milled boards and beams rather than just logs? Any good for this - they seem like a good company

Would it not be a bit fast/aggressive???

Splitting and warping in firewood is not problem, but obvious boards need to be kept as stable as possible, so drying needs to be slow, beams may be ok, so long as your wanting the rustic look.

Its pretty useless for drying logs due to lack of insulation in its design for doing milled boards and beams it will be hopeless as you need good control of both heat and humidity the control being sadly lacking in the glenn farrow kiln.

Yes you would have better results blowing on every individual log until it's dry than trying to dry wood in an Uninsulated container
