As with any tool I guess its down to what you want it for. I would give the 9mm a wide birth unless you really trust the guy you are buying it from. If I was buying a first gun for a youngster I would try and find a nice simple 410. I personally really dont like the bolt action on shotguns, maybe try and find a second hand side by side or over and under, you could have a look on Second Hand Guns | Used Shotguns | Rifles for Sale at GunTrader, or if you are from this part of the country (East Anglia) I could recommend some good guys. You should be able to pick up a nice 410 2nd hand for not much more than 100 quid.

Hope that helps,

James

is the .410 single or mag fed as webley did a few with magazine under the bolt which are a bit rarer, I have done a lot of pigeon and rabbit shooting with a .410 webley, basic sold gun, never used a 9mm. Just bare in mind that .410 ammo is properly expensive!

as mentioned make sure the back screw on the action is solid and hasn't been butchered by over tightening it as this is a real weakness on them

The 9mm garden guns were quite common in orchards many moons ago and have an option of either shot or a slug, generally a rim-fire cartridge.

As for bolt actions, I personally love them, but check the pin, lugs and extractor

You won't get any slug ammunition for a shotgun without a firearms certificate now - a shotgun cert won't be enough.

9mm slugs are nigh on impossible to obtain anyway, only ones I've seen are from Germany
