Huskie nose sprocket.

Just had the nose sprocket on a nearly new 15" Huskie bar break up whilst using it. I had just dressed the bar and greased the sprocket about an hour beforehand. Thankfully the chain seems to have kept everything in the bar, which now has a big bulge in it and the chain is knackered.

Anyone else ever had this happen?

Any idea of a cause?

Yup, all of mine have died like that though the chain has always been fine. Age or a pinch can cause it, as can a tap/drop on the tip. Just have to suck it up and replace it. Unless you can take it back and convince the shop it's nothing you did that caused it.

Me too, first 15" bar on 550xp went the same way, replaced it with Oregon narrow kerf and no problems since.

Not had it for a while but had a few in a row spit the nose sprocket after a few days, nearly always .325 ones.

 

Not found the Oregon prolites to be much better - they seemed to go downhill when they started being made in the US instead of Canada.

 

Didn't seem to make any difference whether they were greased or not greased

Yep, this was a .325.

Never had it happen before though.

Mind you, I do tend to be a bit fussy over dressing my bar.

It gets done at the end of every day, or the next morning if I'm feeling pissed of, knackered, cold at the end of the day. Or if I get an invite to the pub.

The problem is greasing the nose sprocket . I stopped doing it a few years ago and now never get a ( premature ) problem . You grease the bar and it attracts crap and crud . You dress the bar and swarf from your filing gets trapped ion the grease ......bang !

On the whole, I don't grease them either, but I've had several go pop and others who do grease have too.

 

I think forestry is a lot harder on the noses than arb from a lot more snedding.
