Gas Bottle Woodburner

I've seen plenty of gas bottle versions including the one at a friends workshop that virtually collapsed on itself.

 

However last time I was in there I had to do a double take at it's replacement!

 

Talk about heavy duty, those are truck rims and the lid was 15mm plate!

 

It's performance is unreal, get it hot and it just sits there and radiates so much heat it's fantastic.

 

I think it'll be there for a while, even with it's lucky handle!

Thats a shame sean, by neighbours seem to put up with everything but luckily the prevailing wind blows through the fields.

Make some proper hinges with heavy bolts for pins don't use gate hinges they will not last two minutes (very long anyway) and when you make the door cut the hinge side and top and bottom then weld the hinges on then cut the last side and the door will fit. Pyrex cookery dish lids will make a door glass if you really want to see the flames but they need rope round them to seal them in. The chimney is the hardest part to find as it needs to be at least 5" to work well and tubing is expensive in big sizes but I have seen fire extinguishers with top and bottom removed used to good effect.

Hi abercarver

We have 3 different gas bottle wood burners. 1 standard, 1 with a built in Oven and 1 with a water jacket internally. All upright, I think a pot belly one wouldn't draw aswel,(just a gut feeling) il try and put pics up tomorrow.

Im always up for the 'not so simple' option. Im not really looking for a forge just a place that provides a little warmth, and keep the cuppa warm.

At my last workshop there was a welder opposite me who used to make really crap gates and fences. You can buy in hinges etc ready for welding on to gates. Heavy duty and wouldn't fall apart for years. You can find them on the net np
