Yep agree with the self preservation, ladders may seem like cheating to some, but this job is hard enough, why not make life easier, yeah sometimes I'll use a throw line when it's a big tree, but even then I'll still use the ladders for the first bit, much easier on the arms, even when I'm climbing srt with Foot/knee ascenders. I think part of it may be habit but works for me.

talking sense. ive been doing maintenance on a shed load of 20-30+m london planes this week. its been big shot then up the triple stage to deal with the first 8m. energy saving!
