here's those first three again just to give you an idea of their size.

along with all the brown oak i have laurel, hornbeam and spalted beech.

 

here a link to the coring of a small laurel bowl with the woodcut bowl saver. its only 7"x3" but i can turn it in to two bowl rather than one nice bowl and lots of shavings.

Flames ..... yes I do paint the insides black , it creates focus on the exterior , as there is nothing to see in inside ( unless I put something in there see pics ) . You are right that in some ways voids help you see the process whilst hollowing but it can be a rough ride whilst cutting !!! I do quite a few bowls and other stuff as well , but prefer HF's, as rough green wood is readily available / cheap and I just prefer them !

well here's yesterdays coring efforts, from what was 4 bits of hornbeam and 1 24" log of laurel (essentially 5 lumps of wood) i managed to get 27 blanks and i'm yet to core two large bits of beech which should give me another 8 blanks plus a few other bits most people would consider firewood.

 

reckon i'll have about 40 when i'm finished.

 

 

the five triple nests are the hornbeam, the rest is laurel.

Coring tool would be nice tool to have,mind you so would large piece to cut it from

you dont need big wood to core. those laurel ones at the front are only 7 1/2".

yeah i have a bit clive, i needed to really as i got delivered all this wood from windsor and i had to core it straight away so its ready for the summer. they don't realise just how long these things can take to season.
