Thanks for starting this thread FRANK, always wondered myself.

 

Where and when is the NW comp skyhuck? I'd be very interested in going, maybe not to compete as I've never even had a go at footlocking but would be ace to see how others climb and pick up some tips.

I don't think its held any more, it used to be organized by Ken Linford and Myercougth collage.

 

It was held in Leyland.

 

It was just a timed work climb, with some bean bags to throw at a target part way through the climb and points for landing on a target and penalty's for making the bottom limb bend to much as you went to the end.

 

No throw line throwing or foot locking.

 

The results used to be published in the F&BT, they even had a pic of me accepting my saw in there (My only claim to fame )

Awww gutted, I actually go to myerscough college so if it was still held I'd hear about it. Thanks for replying though, sounds like it woulda been good fun with the target practice too, will have to try and find the next nearest.

Right I'm gonna be there at the Climbers and cutters comp, with my harness and rope. In for a penny, in for a pound.

Any web-links to other comps??, past or present, so as to get an idea of what to expect. I've only ever seen the pole climb at APF, and some short clips on youtube.

Do you have to do all 5 disciplines?

No one can or will make you do all five, but yes, to complete the comp would require you to do all five. Problem is that a poor time (20 seconds slower than the fastest) will score you zero points on footlock and speedclimb, so some people would rather skip these events rather than struggle and wear themselves out for no points and minor embarassment!

 

However it snot really in the spirit of things to miss an event, so you would be encouraged to do all of them, and completing the footlock/speedclimb is an achievement that is worthwhile.
