Sorry this was the bit, the hospital tried to say I condemned the tree, this was not the case and I wrote to the local paper explaining the reasons why.

Jesse, this is not really 'my' list, more so a place for anyone to highlight articles in the press regarding anything to do with trees.

As such, your piece fits nicely.

I find it interesting but also unsuprising that the article does not report or make mention of the benefits of the tree other than its historical reference.

thanks for posting.

terrible accident yes however strangely to me there is something pleasing to see either car, lorry or a bus wrapped round trees that will just shrug it of and not be affected by all this metal flying in to it.

Not entirely sure it will shrug it off, as more often than not trees involved in serious Rta's get felled ime.

why would they do that???

its not going to drop dead just because a bus slammed in to it is it?

from all the camera angle i saw the tree will have had bark damage and maybe a bit of metal digging in to it but otherwise it looked ok.

I'm not referring to the above incident specifically but in general.

It's usually always a very an emotive issue.

It can and does remind friends and families of where and why their loved ones got maimed or passed away.

Btw, I'm not advocating this approach particularly, but I know of instances where this has occurred.

On one particular occasion a fatality occurred during a head on collision with a willow and the stem really only sustained a relatively small amount of bark damage by the car with no specific structural issues, but it was still removed.

I read that the other day and I thought it was odd that the article made it sound like it was the tree's fault. Plane trees shed bark all the time don't they, it's their way of dealing with pollution.

The tree tore through the front of the bus, pinning two bloodied passengers to their seats for two hours before they were eventually cut free by firefighters
"The tree came basically right through the front, into the seats. The whole front of the bus was trashed
