Nice Simple design Pete. What type pointed screws are they? My bro wants me to make him a log stand.

 

now that's a good one!!!

 

got them from a place I used to work, cant think what there called, but they were used for fixings into brick/block work without using raw plugs. were never to great as I seem to remember, but great for me log holder.

My Uncle in-law welded me up a copy of the stihl one very similar to yours, I love it. Logging was a chore with this its now 3xquicker and as you say easy on the back, do you use timber tongs as well for shifting the cord about, if not get some.

I was going to make one then saw some seconds on ebay and bought one for £30 delivered, I couldn't buy the steel for that unless I found some scrap. I am using it as is but have looked at a couple of modifications to make it better like more gripper teeth and pins instead of bolts with wing nuts. The bolts are called thunder bolts or just concrete screws I used them to fasten our windows in.
