Buggers up the starter IMO, especially on the ring starters

He has a reason for it on one of his vids. I dunno bout questioning the saw 'king' - he's been repairing saws and porting and making race saws since 1960 or so... he might smite you.

Probably just one of those affectations people develop specifically so people ask about it...

 

"...well, back when I was felling trees in the early 1940s using a customised Harley to drive a chain made out of Indian's teeth, we had to use rattlesnakes for starter ropes..." etc etc

Just because people have done things for a long time doesn't make it correct, my boss saws as he uses a chainsaw!

Maybe. But it does mean he's forgotten more about how to use and repair a chainsaw than any of us ever knew. Unlike my first response, this one isn't a joke. The guy knows his stuff, and he's not messing around.
