advice for a noobie chainsaw user

I was wondering why that guy always pulls the starter cord out when he stops a saw.

He has a reason for it on one of his vids. I dunno bout questioning the saw 'king' - he's been repairing saws and porting and making race saws since 1960 or so... he might smite you.

Seem to remember, it's about being able to feel the amount of compression the saw has. But quite how that helps, I have not a clue.

Probably just one of those affectations people develop specifically so people ask about it...

Just because people have done things for a long time doesn't make it correct, my boss saws as he uses a chainsaw!

Maybe. But it does mean he's forgotten more about how to use and repair a chainsaw than any of us ever knew. Unlike my first response, this one isn't a joke. The guy knows his stuff, and he's not messing around.

For all we know, that may be what he's trying to prevent with the pull cord.
