hi i am in the process of buying my climbing equipment just a bit unsure on the rope as there is spliced and not spliced is a splice essential or does it not matter thanks in advance phil:001_smile:

It's personal preference.

I prefer no spliced eye as I like to alternate which end of the rope I use. Others like the ease of attaching to an eye.

Some of the splices are really tight i have found, so just have non spliced ropes. This also helps when using the spider jack 2.1 Di. Otherwise ud have to take it apart to fit it to the rope. If you was thinking of getting the new ZigZag2 u wouldn't be able to use it if both ends where spliced.

Very few ropes are spliced both ends these days, I'd go spliced one end personally.

 

For SJ etc just feed the rope in from the bottom.

havent used anything yet so this will be my first kit that i buy i just dont want to spend money on something thats not needed like spliced rope if you know what i mean

Keep it simple then bud, and work your way up

A splice looks neater, is less bulky and can be safer for some friction hitches.

You could get a rope 5m longer than needed and spliced at both ends, cut the last 5m off and you've got yourself a rope and a lanyard!!
