I know some might shoot me down for this but why not spend a little more and put synthetic line On the winch? Prob get away with 14mm, if I used mine more often I'd do it just for the safety side and the ease of handling.

Still weighting for someone to tell me what motor to fit on mine so it can go on the front of the valtra.....hint hint.....?....

Boughton can still supply the original drawings for these winches, that is as good as a manual. Although the spares are a bit thin on the ground they are pretty basic ,things like bearings and seals are available from any decent bearing supplier. We have tried a few different rope sizes but have gone to 1" because any smaller and the things break, the only problem with this is that you cant get enough rope on the winch for some of the really big stuff . sometimes you get buried in the canopy and have to be cut out of the tractor :scared1:, go smaller on the rope and unless you are very careful it will break. Most times if the tractor is sat up on the spades just the weight of the rope will bring a tree in. Dont forget to overhaul that brake :)

anyone know a decent guide to the winch incl break down etc? ive to change the bearing and seal at pto in and will do whatever i can before i fit it to leave it useable, what size or type wire do others use?? thanks

Ulrich still have all the info on these, only they will need your model number, but it is very simple to strip down. take off back plate and you will see all the workings take off the chain and remove a few circlips and withdraw the shaft and bearings, bearing's are common size, on mine the shaft was scored where the seal run so I lathed the shaft and bought a new seal to suit, replace and seal up back plate and job done
