Hi Mark, can you just clarify how many different sizes there are?

Just looking at caps for 372xp and 560xp at the moment. Is there part numbers available?

There are two sizes of flip cap that I know about which should cover most of the old and new range. There are a few odd ball ones like the 236 which is a different type of thread.

As a very rough guide anything over 50cc should take the large size caps, 50cc and under will be a mix of small and large.

Although I will be happy to be proved wrong if anyone can help out as I dont have access to that many older husky saws.

Officially Husky list the new small flip caps for the 550XP and 545 only.

I dont have the part numbers with me atm but if your looking to buy from your local dealer etc husky have just updated the IPL for the 550XP which has all the new info on.

I don't really get the point of a flip cap if its still just a screw fit??

Well I suppose its because its tool less, if Stihl had made tool less caps for the 046, 066 etc I would have well bought some.

But mainly its because as Mark said they look better.:001_smile:

When you've got a saw as nice looking as a 550XP the old cap looks garbage, they wouldn't look out of place on Fred Flintstones car.

I mean only old people wouldn't understand a bit of bling.:001_smile:

I would retaliate, but on lifting my walking stick I would fall over!

:laugh1: I know how you feel!

These caps look a nice time saver to me, it would be nice if Stihl had a similar setup.

But what I'm not sure of is just how tight a cap needs to be.

I mean, with the O-ring working properly the cap easily seals without the need to spanner it shut.

I've never had a cap (in good condition) leak or vibrate loose.

Maybe someone can give a view?

The cap on my 346xp tightens in use, so I require a combi tool to free it off, I suspect these caps will give me a bit more purchase (no pun intended).:001_smile:
