No idea but I cant ask my local scrap yard known the 30 years and my kids go to school with theirs. they know where I live they have been round for coffee. But I still need photo id and utility bill  may be its worth some research.

Research complete! I've been to the scrap yard today. I spoke to the bloke that runs the yard about the no fixed abode situation. He told me he didn't know anything about people of no fixed abode being paid in cash.

Bacs or cheque in the name of the person with the ID only. His words.

This is certainly my understanding. There are possibly scrap yards that may pay cash through the back door but none that i know of round here.

There will always be yards that will pay in cash for hooky metal. I'm told that it is going on at a scrap yard in Suffolk.
