Why are tracked machines SO much more expensive?

I honestly struggle to see how doubling the price is justified.

 

I suppose you got two machines, a chipper and a tracked unit

I have had two tracked machines and unless you really really need it get a tow behind, a 4wd pick up or compact tractor will get it most places and the weight thing when towing is a PITA.

well you have given me options so far to think about, got to say I have never done HP always saved for stuff and then gone and got it, I think I have just got used to using tracked as they are the only type I have used but a tow behind would do the jobs I need to do so will look into them also. I had a 5 inch camon adequate for the area Im in but it drank petrol like a v8, because of tight storage I opted for a 6 inch tracked tw.

Id like to have the engineering knowledge to put a diesel camon on electric expanding tracks.

No it's just that IMO stick to the big brands TW green mech, Jensen etc, they've the biggest backup of spares, network of dealers, they're the most popular for a reason.

that forest king chipper is chinese junk, it would shake itself to death within a few weeks. no one can build an 8" chipper that weighs 400 kg unless its built of paper thin tin. stay clear mate.

My first and second chipper were both Timberwolf 190's, both road tow but if you NEED a tracked machine I dont think youd go far wrong with a tracked 150

 

All of this said it really depends on your work, if youve used Jensens and you like them why not stick with what you know. As said before it is very handy to have a local dealer on hand with parts etc...

if cash is tight the camon c275 / c250 is a good chipper for your money weve had ours for 3+ years and it has transformed our business it looks so much better when you turn up to a job and you can deal with the arising on site instead off slash and stamp to get it all in the back
