LR Defender production to end

They'll come up with some god awful mess similar to that effing heap Evoque..no money for them making a genuine utility vehicle anymore.

With the evoke I think they were trying to shake off the London cab look. The evoke is a very heavy little car with no head room in the back. Range rover sport is a RR with half a boot. disco 4 is a 4x4 transit

I posted this in a similar thread last year:

Traditionally, LR's biggest customer must have been the military (hence the name Defender). Demand has dropped because the armed forces are waaaay smaller than they were and in the type of war/counter insurgency nowadays LRs just don't cut it. So for Land Rover, to put it bluntly, there's too much peace and too much war. Ironic, no?

while i agree with some issues regarding arm room etc , i think its incredibly sad that such an iconic vehicle has been phased out due to crappy emmisions is ridiculas , the defender has proved itself to be a quality vehicle for soooo many different applications unlike any other jap pickup has , if they just continued to make a slightly more refined 300 tdi it would continue to sell over and over

I can understand people liking defenders. What ever floats your boat but to say a Hilux is no good and the defender beats all jap pick ups. A lot of jap pick ups are a load of junk not all.

Agreed, but nothing off-roads like a defender.

i totally agree , i dont think jap pick ups are crap at all , far from it but the sheer versatility of the defender makes it a great truck and i actually think the fact that they are so agricultual makes them what they are , ok maybe not the latest tdci but the classic 200/300 that are still extremely popular , and id like to add ive owned 6 defenders and never had a problem with the heaters ! lol :001_smile:

I can concur with the heaters (although I prefer a TD5 myself).

As long as you accept that the heater has only an on/off switch. Any notion of control beyond this is sheer fantasy.
