Fencing price?

Hi all, I have my own idea but wondered what you might consider a reasonable price for some fencing.

8 or 9 metres of 3 foot close board with a gravel board. No existing fence to remove, no tree roots to contend with. I have done fencing in the past (old company had tree side and fencing side, we helped each other out when needed) and know I could do a decent job in a day, day and a half tops if working alone.

My elderly grandmother in law has out of the blue asked a local guy to do it and I was shocked. Despite me saying I'll do it free for the cost of materials, she feels commited to this other guy. My wife convinced her to cancel until talking to me, the fencer said he'd already custom made the fence and he would charge for materials and drop them off. Then he called back this morning with a significantly lower price?! I'm going to drop by this afternoon when he drops off the fence for a Friday start (hope it doesn't go missing from the front garden before then!) and have a chat. It stinks to me, or am I being paranoid?

So, reasonable prices?

You don't custom make it as its either erected insitu on site or brought from a wood yard in panels! I cant see anyone making the panels up them selves to be honest.

And the fact that he has dropped the price just doesn't sound very professional to me.

If it was my Nan id be telling him to do one!

£200 for labour plus materials on top?

I had a quick tally up on Jacksons fencing and I could all materials and fixings/cement etc delivered for just ovef £300.

This guys original price was nearly £900. I don't know how much he has dropped it by now. Very suspect to me...

At 6ft high we charge £45/meter all in for 10m plus lengths so I would think £40 a meter should see the job done.

5 posts @£5 each

5 post create @£5 each

5 of 3x1.5" rails @£4.50 each

45 6' lats to be cut in half. Less than £1 each

Less than £150 in materials and 2 people should have it done in just over 1/2 a day

No, £200 all inclusive of labour and materials.

For 3ft high I would expect material costs to be down to about £10/m (wooden posts and gravel boards, 2 rails and feather edge) so £90 which leaves £110 for an easy days work for one man.

Might have been a bit stingy on the labour, but £230 would easily cover the whole job.
