Hi all my mate uses a 550xp and it has recently started cutting out on tickover, seems alright in use but stops before he can measure his first product.

we are currently working in some hardwood first thinnings and there is nothing big about to try and retune the saw in.

has anyone had this before? and is there a simple fix?

i am interested to hear about the outcome of this as i have a 346xpg and it does the same, cuts out inbetween cuts unless you keep reving it and mine isn't autotune so i dialed up the idle speed and it still does it! just wondering do you then struggle to strike your saw up till it has cooled down?

That could be low compression, a faulty needle or leak of some description, as well as a tank vent, does it stall immediately after you take it off high idle or once hot only?

it only does it once it gets hot, after about 5 mins of use

Most likely ignition coil if it it does it when warm. Does it restart easy once cold?

Have a test plug on stand by, get the saw warm and when it conks out check for spark immediately it stops. ( make sure u have the cylinder cover already removed)
