Customers looking for roundwood

Been getting a fair few foke looking to buy roundwood or cord as some call it (lengths of timber to be processed in to logs by customer). Is this a growing trend?

I get it a lot, I sell it to them off jobs rather that cord I have bought in. I sell a 10x5 trailer with caged sides for £200 take it or leave it.

That price sounds more like it, I'm going to up the prices this season. Was £30-35 for softwood and £40-45 for hardwood per tonne last year. Normally deliver 2-3 tonne at a time but can do up to 6 tonne

Normally its because they are tight and want something for nothing

I think a lot of homeowners enjoy the task of cutting and splitting wood on a sunday morning, not just the £ saving.

I reckon so yes. I have one customer with a 30kW stove in her barn conversion and munches through an average of 1m3 a week (I delivered over 50 loads to her last year) and she asked about roundwood. While it was plentiful I did her a truck load if I was passing for £50 which she reckoned made 2m3 loose...

£50 of roundwood makes £140 once thru the Japa tho so I've little incentive to do it for anyone else!

Yep sell rings out and keep the nice straight roundwood to go through my processor. Once I've enough stockpiled I'll sell the roundwood at rdside, but that's forestry not arb.

 

At the end of the day I'm only in business if people by my services/ products. If I can clear the yard, or better drop it off before I get back, and put money in my pocket then all good to me.

After a bit head scratching I've worked out a volume / weight calculation. I can sell rough lumps / rings at about what I get for roundwood at roadside.

 

Customers happy, yard is a bit clearer, money in the pocket and I'm not humping rings on to a splitter, just whiz zing poles through the processor. Struggling to find a downside.
