I was wondering if I could tell them I will be arriving on Horseback.:001_smile:

Sorry Eddie, It's more of an inventory than a survey. Going through the wood, mapping and measuring every tree and coppice stool, assessing and identifying moss and lichen coverage and ground flora.

Also looking for signs of Chalara and taking soil pH and moisture measurements, mapping brash piles and standing dead wood, ponds, banks, etc.

So you're walking anyway? Use a pencil instead of a pen? Use recycled paper? There isn't a way of reducing your emissions, and Tbf NE are quite happy to use blowtorches and rubber to start a fire, so they can talk

Bear in mind that this isn't the only criteria they assess you on but will have some points in the score system linked to it.

So if you could say that you use less vehicles, bio diesel, aspen, veg oil for chain etc etc then you will get a few brownie points. In reality they don't check if you really do what you say, so you can probably get a few points for nothing. Best not to claim a horse if you're not using one!

They're looking for policies to reduce emissions. So tell them it's your policy that you organise they way you carry out the work to minimise the amount of time you spend on site and movements around the site, hence reducing journeys. Also that wherever possible you use green fuels etc and that the choice of vehicle is dependant on suitability for purpose, which includes the fuel efficiency.

These are all things that you are probably doing anyway in order to maximise your profits, but it gives you a "policy" that you can throw at them and tick their box. :thumbup1:

Exactly. You are looking to help them tick boxes, not necessarily do anything different.

You can state that when travelling to site you will review transport options on a regular basis. This will include the use of car-sharing when practical, such as when on-site meetings are called. You will use Google maps to establish the most fuel-efficient route (if you put two locations into Google maps you now get a fuel cost box at the bottom).

Don't go overboard, or put ridiculous suggestions down for the sake of writing something. The person who has to review your application probably thinks this policy is as stupid as you do!
