I'm the same as KGBFINGAR - one 10mg Omeprazole each morning and no problem all day; just have to remember to take it or I start getting a bit windy/heartburn later. Had it for about the same time too.

Surgery - only way I reckon. Had non-keyhole (keyhole was not reccommended for inguinal hernias in 2007 anyway) with mesh implant. Loved the operation (best sleep I've ever had), hated the pain the next day, 6-8 weeks off indeed but all worth it.

That's what I had done 6 weeks ago TCD, been back to work a few weeks but still a bit crippling when I cough or sneeze etc.

As for the O.P (woodworks) it wont mend on its own but can be controlled using the reflux drugs but go for the op if you can and get it sorted as you've probably guessed. Its a P.I.T.A having time off etc but for a long term fix over a lifetime of drugs and worrying about damaging it further I would think it was a decision easily made? (I don't know all this about yours btw the other halfs a nurse and just asked her lol!)

Other half says it wont repair on its own.

Spicy or rich foods alcohol or food with small pips may all aggrevate the problem. At night symptoms can get worse which can be helped by sleeping more upright.

Im being the messenger boy here shes trying to explain it to me whilst I type lol.

I thought my hernia (groin) wasn't pleasant but sounds like yours can cause many more issues. Least mine diet etc never came into it.

even after my op etc if i dont take my meds i can vomet in my sleep acid reflux etc its like drownin in your own acid very frightening and as it goes down your airway its really bad trying to get your breathing back etc scary stuff

I don't know if your doc told you, probably not but its the sphincter muscle at the bottom of your oesophagus that stops working which allows to much acid into your throat.

Now it's the acid that can cause major problems as the lining of your throat is not designed to withstand the acid and this continual acid reflux can actually lead to barretts disease ie potential throat cancer so it's no laughing matter.

So I strongly suggest you seek the correct medication.

Many people mainly blokes suffer from acid reflux but its the serious cases that need the correct medication and as the doctors say its GERD gastro esophagus

Reflux DISEASE

Second this: My Father-in law had this aka oesophageal cancer due to years of reflux; died from it and the cancer journey wasn't pretty.

Seriously get anything internal sorted ASAP. I had all sorts of issues a couple of years ago that were nearly fatal resulting in removal of my large intestine. A hernia op is relatively small in the scheme of things.
