Very good idea. That's a fast way of clearing the stones around root buttresses before stump grinding.

 

 

Sent with my iPhone from me, to you!

 

Had a large Acer rubrum today and cleared all the gravel and the root flares

with great success and managed to carve away one root well away from the concrete walk.

Please be careful If you do put the chain on backwards the KICK BACK will take your head off. I used my 260.

Took a short vid and will post if any one cares to see.

Put em on backwards and turn your saw into a digger to clear the debris away for the stump cut!

I have done it plenty of times and the only issue I see the grit wearing things a bit more quickly.

 

Surely this has to be a joke?

forest and arb take all old chains and any money they get in scrap is given to hants and iow air ambulance. must find out how much they have raised but good use of knackered chains

This is the best idea I pve ever heard. I wonder if it's something we could encourage more dealers to do, even if they have a bin to chuck old chains in when you call in. If something good came of this thread then this is the answer.
