Creating and maintaining deadwood habitat

Have fumbled about creating nooks and crannies for a while.

Rustics the name of the game, no points sought for style.

What has anyone else tried.

Here's a windblown pop hung up in a vet Oak.

Released and high stumped back in April 07.

Last shots are from this week.

Some signs of old nesting.

Nice! Ever put up a sign as explanation to the public? If so, what you write?

Have done, but only leave up for a few months.

Usually extolling the virtues of standing dead timber, and its place in the cycle of fungal, lichen, invertebrate and bird interaction.
