Tax Category

Has anyone tried changing there tax category? Bought myself a digger not taxed since donkey years and the tax group it was on no longer exist according to dvla. So I’m hoping to get it on Agriculture tax as i use it on a small holding. Dvla told me to write a covering letter? Stating why i think it should be agri tax class. Anyone one had any joy with this?

Jcb backhoe? Excavator, wheeled or tracked???

A wheeled excavator such as a jcb sitemaster is taxed at 120 a year upwards, according to a friend who has one. You cannot get them on farm only use if it is road legal apparantley

Really.

 

I know two places that have them on agri. One is a skip yard, the only road travel they do is from the owners home address to the yard as the yard is not secure.

 

And a local guy who does hardcore and machine driving as he owns a farm. The digger goes on local jobs within a local radius.

We have a 4x4 mk bedford watering unit and we taxed that under "limited use" That is still tax free and MOT exempt. Agricultural, horticultural and forestry vehicles exempt from vehicle tax | nidirect.

She is a backhoe. Used fo agri use hence the reason i want to change the category. The women from dvla said the current category for it is non existant. Im sending off my cover letter tomorrow and see what happens:thumbup1:

From now on it should be referred to as a tractor with loading buckets.

You can tax your vehicle in the 'limited use' tax class if it’s used solely for purposes relating to agriculture, horticulture or forestry and:

 

~ it’s used on public roads only in passing between different areas of land occupied by the same person

~ the distance it travels on public roads in passing between any two such areas does not exceed 1.5 km

 

....1.5km (less than a mile) doesn't exactly help get horticulture & woodland products to the local market does it!! Who comes up with this stuff?? Maybe they dont want true local produce to thrive? Maybe Tesco, etc is local enough for DVLA and ukGOV?
