Anybody able to put up some detailed photos of the kind of angles and profiles I should be aiming for when edging my sawblade for a bit of general stake making and crosscutting. I seem to start with different ideas every time I approach the job.

Take it to or send it to a saw doctor. They have the correct equipment and can get all the angles right. You can never replicate their accuracy by doing it by hand.

I agree to send it away to have it re tensioned and gulleted but touching up the top face only with a flat file is necessary between major sharpening.

+1 for what it takes to do one its as cheap to get a saw doctor to sharpen and balance it for you thats what you need is it balanced a unbalanced saw can become a dangerous blade which can cause serious damage if it breaks and fly's off.

I used to tickle my saw bench blade with a mill saw file and had the tool to put a bit of kerf into it too.

It would get a proper tension and gullet from a local saw doctor every few years and I would be able to follow his angles for a long time then.

If you do it well, then the rotational balance remains more or less the same - take off as much with the left as the right, just like a chainsaw chain!
