Ms261 problems

OK, basically when the saw is idling, the clutch should be spinning around inside the clutch drum with no contact between the clutch shoes and the clutch drum.

 

You usually get a little friction between the crankshaft and the drum and clutch but this is so small it wont effect the idle.

 

If the saw is cutting out when the chain brake is applied, the application of the chain brake is increasing the contact friction between the previously mentioned parts to the point that it is dragging down the revs at idle to the point the saw stalls.

 

It may be the bearing is shagged, twine around the crank shaft end and washers is a common one (probably not in your case as it has been cleaned), a busted clutch spring can do it as can just wear and tear on these parts.

Yeah, all down to computers, can't trust computers, I'd be rich if computers weren't around... And have less saws

It wouldn't but it would explain why the drum not going on.

 

The cutting out could be many things. Like carb issue.

 

The impulse line do have a tendency to go on these.

 

Is the carb adjusted to factory, and does it make a difference if adjusted. Also what is the plug colour?

Yes the spark looks fine as do the clutch springs

Will the saw run ok with the clutch off?

 

It could be the low jet that needs adjustment - plug colour wont show this.

All joking aside, check the clutch bearings, and if it dings whilst idling, you've got a worn spring

Yes - sounds like clutch springs, binding betwen the clutch and drum or needle bearing!

Clutch springs seem fine

Gonna replace needle bearing but still can seem to seat clutch drum properly which is freaking me out
