wound paints have been proven to do no good - however if youblow torch the wound this will kill any bacteria and tree slugs, which are the main causes of decay in trees.

What's a tree slug? Is it like a regular slug only with an NPTC?

What effect will torching the wound have on the cambium? Won't you need to stay there on torch duty keeping watch for spores and bacteria ready to strike as and when needed?

 

Flame sterilisation is a valid process in the right place but if applied to trees it's about as impractical as it gets.

 

I wonder if Fungi cause decay in trees?

As an aside, it's amazing how many "pros" are saying trees heal. They seal, they don't heal!
