A friend owns a property in the south of france and has 8 acres of woodland. He wants to fell a fair bit of timber but are there any restrictions? Felling licences, tpo's etc? I seem to recall someone having to ask permission of the local mayor?

I've tried searching on arbtalk and google but cant seem to find anything.

Any help most appreciated!

I've heard a new law is afoot regarding woodland felling. Very basically it allows felling of traditional coppice spp but requires permission for oak. Conifers and less commercially valuable trees are also exempt. The likelihood is that no one will bother anyway :-)

So I was told by the guys who took my dads douglas firs(420) that the only permission they needed was from the mairie was for access to the rear of the land using the dirt tracks. But as with everything in France things can vary quite a bit form one department to another.

Hi,

It may be worth checking this out, but this is how I understand it:

If you want to work for some one else in France you need a Siret number, if you havnt & carry out work and are injured in the process then your friend is liable.

Take care
