Defender 130 pulling capabilities?

I'm looking for a bit of advice from anybody who uses a defender 130 and pulls a tracked chipper.

 

I've just had my cabstar probably written off so need to get another vehicle soon. I've been wanting a defender tipper for a while now and am nearly decided on one with td5 engine.

However, I have heard that it might struggle pulling the chipper and trailer.(2 ton) with a decent full load in the back (5cubic metres) and tools etc.

HI MATE just get it remaped to 200hp and 320lbs TQ it will pull very well mate j fern is your man in matlock thanks jon

You can chip a TD5 engine so it will pull better. Will pay you to talk to twisted performance and see what they can come up with to make it better at pulling.

I hadn't thought about chipping it. 200 horses should do it!

Just about to get rid of a 130 and exchange it for a cabstar - My concern is the clutch?

with the landy at least if you really need it you've got low box, and this is great for saving the clutch when manoeuvring with weight and a trailer too.

 

Never been so overweight that ive needed low box on the road but I'm sure I recall someone saying that you could use 1 through to 5th in low then move to 3rd in high box then up to 5th high, and away.

I have a 130 td5 tipper which I to a tracked chipper with, I fitted a tune it box and took it off as it was crap. The problem with chipping TD5 is you can burn out the air mass meter, this is because the the chip or re map tells it that there is more air passing it to give more fuel and this causes them to burn out. I like mine as standard it pulls fine, it could be better when full of chip but chipping ain't the answer, get a TDV6 fitted with an auto box.

I want one in mine John, it has been done, won't be cheap, I read of someone who does the conversion with a brand new engine and box but its 30k
