Hi there

I'm planning on turning a nice bowl for my sisters wedding gift and I was hoping someone near Bristol might have a decent size burr I could use for this purpose? I'm thinking a nice fruit bowl or something along those lines.

No real idea of what wood i'd like to use so pretty open to suggestions as long as its got a bit of colour to it.

Cheers all

Steve

Not particularly near you, but you could try dropping Nepia (Jon) a PM. Not sure if he got it, or still has it, but he may still have something decent.

Thanks for the thought Alec but I don't have any burr unfortunately.

The closest I have is the pollard head of an oak from 'Bodge's doorstep (Sindlesham)! Not burr but an unusual piece, even though any bowl would have peepholes in it!

Blakes11, I know a couple of guys who grabbed a load of Robinia burr recently from a large felled tree: it's green and they're professional turners so won't sell cheap but let me know if you want contact details.

spooky james,me dad lives in chewstoke,,,

It's a nice little village mate, seem to spend too much time there lately, as they bought a house there in a state of disrepair. They seem to think that having a builder as a brother it would magically get fixed. Seems they were largely right too. :screwy:

Spooky still, I went to School in Chew Stoke!! :-)

Brilliant input guys, thanks.

James - One of your burrs could be ideal and i'd definitely be happy to collect in Chew. I was thinking of something along the lines of a nice fruit bowl if you've got something that kinda size? My sister knows I making something so isn't expecting anything on the day so no massive rush.

Cheers again all.

To be clear these burrs are very old and dry. Not sure how old as I bought a pallet load at auction. Some are better than others, I will take pics of biggest ones and you can choose which one and make me an offer. I think I will be at my sisters on Saturday 31st if all goes to plan, haven't discussed this with her yet though. Were just passing that day.
