If the families are really bad then do what my friends did - sod off somewhere great and have a webcam with a live Internet feed set up behind you (the same view you would get if actually there) and job done!

I hope to move closer to the sea one day... it is approx an hour and half drive to good paddling areas on the coast. Swanage is one of my favourite spots, interesting rock formations.
