Chain oil

Started using some kind of mineral oil as bar oil. Supposedly good stuff, all the forestry gangs using it. Our husky packed up oiling until we changed back to the old variety and some of our other saws look a bit dry. Personally to convinced yet.

What was the old variety if not mineral then ? Have you tried veg oil ?

No idea stubby. Could have got it wrong and it might be vege oil we have been using. Its Bio degradeable and smells funky when it gets hot.

year and half on straight veg oil no issues at all if used frequently it shouldn't gum up or solidify just do not leave the saw stored with tank full it can go bit gunky.drop neat fuel soon clears it back out again tho.

I use pure rapeseed oil, about £1 a litre. Avoid sunflower or other veg oils.

Yep Rapeseed for me over 2 years on the stuff now . Although I do use normal chain oil for any subbies that come in . Unless they want my special bio oil

Where can you get rape seed oil from will start using it!

Most vegetable oil sold in supermarkets is made from rapeseed oil.

The one to avoid is sunflower oil.

Just read the label and makes sure it is 100% rapeseed.

Also if you are switching from mineral oil don't mix the two - make sure the tank is empty of mineral before you fill with vegetable.

I have been using veg oil for three years no problem.

This is correct; should be rapeseed oil above all others as it has the highest lubricity of veg oils. Been using for 2 years now. Only minor issue is it might be a bit lacking on bars over 25" as it lacks anti-fling - I just mix in a bit of chain oil proper if spending any significant time on big bars. Cheaper and better for you
