Bt lines

Got a big beech to come down and bt line is right below rigging point. Big tree and touch enough without having to avoid the phone wire.

Costumer called Bt and they said £199 to come survey the line and possibly another £300 to come take it down. Seems steep.

What do they charge if they are broken? anyone on here dealt with BT and what are the costs? costumers feels a bit ripped off.

thanks

Done a big conni with a firm last year, it had 8 lines running through it, Off the top of my head about £140 plus VAT Per line to drop em.

Customer asked how much to move post 10 feet to the other side of the driveway and was quoted 5K plus :/

Blimey, how things've changed!

It used to be the case that they'd take them down and replace for free, but would charge if you ever damaged them.

I think the principle was that it wasn't the phone users fault or the tree owners fault that BT decided to route their cables through or under a tree, so therefore not liable for any costs if they needed to be taken down to work on the tree.

if it's an urgent safety issue we ask BT to drop the lines. If they delay we say unlucky. You're not really supposed to touch the wires in the box.

But then one is not supposed to speed, eat whilst driving or lift more than 25kgs.

The cost to repair is £90-180 I think. Or catch a local BT guy and plead poverty, pretend you job is on the line etc. Or, as was said, ask the client to ring up the next day.
