Just got back from cone/seed colection weekend. Big trees (but these are small compared with next weekend). Awesome time. Couple of 25m footlocks and SRT mixed in. Spent the night in the hennessy hammocks-they aer super comfy!! trees climbed were about 50m tall with huge canopy spread. Bush walking for couple of hours with 120m rope, full srt gear and dbrt gear was shattering-but worth it. got heaps of cool pics. location is kinda secret due to Kauri disease(type of phytophera). Really cool collecting the seeds for future seedlings

Truly Awesome! I plan to come to New Zealand maybe towards the end of next year to work for a while and see the country.

Love the entire Araucariaceae family, shame they are all in the southern hemishphere and i am a northen hemisphere species, i plan on doing something about it very soon!

Would love to see the Kauri forests, would defo love to see the Wollemia in its natural habitat too - surely that cannot stay a secret forever and ever!?!? And the monkey puzzles in Chile are high on my list of trees to see.

New Caledonia too, with its diverse plant life - 3 endemic conifer genera and 43 endemic conifer species and 18 of the 44 species in Araucariaceae family. This place would be my paradise if all the inhabitants didn't speak bloody French! check out his link

Sorry to go off the topic of NZ mate! Just all of the family is so interesting! I can't wait to explore the southern hemisphere!

Great pics DrewB. Sure beats topping Leylandii in the drizzle.

I have always fancied getting one of those henessy hammocks - how small do they pack down?

down to about the size of a loaf of bread-even smaller if you had compression straps. the ultralight is even smaller, the model ive got is the cocoon.
