Public liability insurance

Have been with lycetts for 17years. Always leave till last minute and end up just renewing with them.

This year I got proactive and shopped around earlier than previous years.

Found many cheaper quotes, but once I actually read the small print, and I hasten to add I was quite thorough with it, I soon found out that lycetts did have the most comprehensive & widely written policy. When I asked for like for like wording guess what, other premiums went up.

This widely written policy filled me with confidence, and although the cost was dearer, I was buying what I deemed a better policy for my protection. Of course this was within my personal, not general circumstances.

Horses for courses to sum, but I read up and decided accordingly.

P.S. Enjoy reading the small print!!! lol

Been going for 4 years now. My public liability insurance has been going down since I took it out in 2009 up until this year where it went up by a whole £3!!!

When I spoke to my broker to query the "non-discount" they were really helpful in explaining. Told me that it's actually quite unusual for liability insurance to go down as much as mine has the last few years as most people start off with all the maximum discounts possible (i.e. several years experience, several years with no claims).

Mine was getting cheaper each year as I started off with little experience/history behind me. Now I've got to 4 years, my discounts are at a maximum and my premium has now stabilised as such.

I've shopped around anyway so know that this is the best price. I guess that is all that matters really. The impression I got is that insurance prices fluctuate regardless of discounts, etc. so just shop around each year to check you are paying the going rate!

Be sure to check the small print...or at least the exclusions.

I recently viewed a policy from a very well known supplier (albeit not yet mentioned in this thread and perhaps where tree surgery isn't their main area of operation) BUT essentially the business I was assessing were probably not insured as they were dismantling a tree that was closer to the highway than the height of the tree and they didn't have a road closure in place.

The poor fella went a very funny colour when I mentioned this and he challenged said insurance provider who confirmed he probably wasn't insured. He's now with one of the 'main stream' suppliers who have been mentioned in this thread.

Cheers all..

Paul

It's all about cover, having made a claim I know I'll be sticking to trust.

Crap cover is as good as no cover and its reassuring to know your well covered when doing a Friday arvo let's get home quick stunt fell.

I've now got public liability, employers, tools, separate indemnity, and hired in plant

I have no clue what it costs I don't like to think about it
