I've just spent a week on a beach - will have a look at the saw tomorrow, to see if I can find any hint to the cause of the problems.

Had a nasty episode from a 088 once. Would just kick back and really hurt. Would snap the pull handle clean through the fingers.

 

It stopped one day. Just didn't happen anymore. Anyway the next time it went out to work the flywheel failed. Lost its magnetism and lost spark. Took some testing to find the cause.

Had the same thing with an 88 and found that if I started it standing up it wouldn't rip the handle out of my Kung fu grip. Hurts even more on a cold day.

The spark plug eventually popped out because the thread had gone.

My 066 is bad for this, I hold the decomp down with my thumb whilst starting, no problems now

The 066 has around 22.5 degrees of advance at idle which is a bit hairy on a large saw - the later ones have variable ignition timing in the coil, he earlier 064 has none and they really do kick.

My 066 does this occasionally, rips the cord out my fingers, just figured it was normal.

my 064 does this very occasionally. I just hold on tighter and pull harder. I presume we are talking about the same thing here

 

I've not yet experienced this on my 090av. that would probably break my shoulder

Yeah even tho they say to not to drop the saw to start it, once you've been bitten your a bit reluctant to do it with the saw on the floor.....

 

Should really get on and look at that decomp button. But damn there expensive new.
