No, although I've been in the industry for over 10 years it still doesn't make me a girl.

but the damage you could possibly have done in the meantime might have you crying like a girl in a few years time :001_tt2:

All I hear is possibly and might. We use machinery to move timber, so work smarter not harder folks.

Go for it Dougal. I bought one of Fleabay and use it when I'm snedding. I use an MS260c with an extended bar, not very heavy but when stooping over branches again and again and for long periods of time it pushes my vertebrae out. It never really helps when I'm lifting things, I just lift properly and don't lift too much! One spine buddy look after it ;)

I see that some forestry belts have quite a wide back support, has anyone much experience with these as would be useful too?

Only wore the wide ones once but seem to remember it sits quite low and probably wouldn't be tight enough to offer any support to your back, more spread the load of what's hanging off it. I didn't get on with it, but I don't really like having a tool belt anyway unless I really have to.

Wearing a support every day will do more harm than good in the long term. As Spud says; use your core muscles to support your back. Relying on artificial support every day will mean that your muscles won't be working as they need to, then if you do strain yourself, your muscles may fail to do what they should.

I used to wear one for a long time after having back problems, mate of mine pointed out same as the above, that it would never get stronger while I was wearing a belt, have'nt worn one since, still get some lower back pain if spent alot of time bent over when logging or snedding, but usually frees off again fairly quick
