Big trees = less money ( prophet )

I recently quoted and subsequently won a job where the nearest competitor was some bit cheaper on price. I was honest, when I was asked if I would drop to his price I said no, and yet they still went with me. I did under-estimate an oak a couple of years ago, we worked late and the client made the money up to what it should have been. Should I have been proud and stubborn and stuck to my price? Or should I accept the extra? I took the extra, the job turned from breaking even to making a profit. They have since had me back for further work, which I have been more accurate on. Big trees = hard work, charge accordingly.

I love the big jobs, but to be honest we're just not kitted out for them.

Sure I can sub in gun climbers like Rich Rule and Ross Smith to spread the load but we still end up ringing up and handballing into a Tranny, and leaving with a back load of rakings and dust on the last day.

It's a buzz when that £2k or whatever hits the account, but when I take off my overheads I realise I would have made more profit trimming Mrs Miggins bush.

These days I give my price and forget about it, not bothered if someone else sweats their nuts off for £50/day nett.

I speak from experience....
