Well getting the HC and pantin is a start. Must say this SRTWP sounds good but cant run before I can walk

 

Yes you can. SRWP isn't for seasoned experts, anyone can do it at any time.

Thinking about a Pantin, I climb on a zig zag.....but which make is best,

Petzl, Kong....which is easiest on your rope life.

last but not least which side would I need left or right as I am right handed.

I use a zigzag and a right foot pantin and am right handed works great. Petzl pantin for me and is easy on the rope.

I would say being right handed doesn't have much to do with it. If you were to kick a football or if you're not into footy, which leg would you try to kick the head of a daisy with?

 

Use that leg.

I'd highly recommend the ct foot ascender very good I have no problem with the rope kicking out like some people have with pantin also I believe the teeth maybe less aggressive and on the petzel I may be wrong tho

New question for those that have been using the CT foot ascender:

 

Is the lock feature on the CT an advantage so that your rope doesn't pop out or is it a hindrance getting the rope in and out all the time.

 

I guess it's pros and cons to both but just wondered if there is a preference.

Yes but do you find it a fiddle with the catch every time Mark?

I only climb SRWP so I use the Pantin for almost every ascent, even if it's a couple of metres.

(Elbows hurt too much if I don't!)

I use an old pantin and never really have issues with the rope popping out. I think if you get the technique dialled it's fine.

I'd certainly view not being able to kick my rope out and get it back on hands free as more of a disadvantage.
