A lockjack is what it is. A knot can be configured and fine tuned in so many ways to suit your climbing style. To me its a no brainer, the cockjack is a great idea but falls short in some major areas i'e panic descents, not much scope for tuning, costly to buy and use some climbers i know go through a cam a month.

I'll wait till something better than a well set-up friction hitch is availible before i give up using my knot.

The Lockjack doesn't need tuning and has many advantages over the knot, as I demonstrated at the leeds getogether.

Limb walking is much easier, no burning the hitch, no slack to take up before knot grips as with vt, self tending, one handed operation, self tending on ascent by just pulling on the tail, you can operate it without the rubber coating of your gloves becoming stuck in the hitch

If climbers are going through a cam a month then they probably need to wash their ropes, I've used mine for two years and there's no sign of wear on my cam at all, it's how you use it. If I want to come out of the tree from the top I attach the figure of eight and decend on that, same as you should with a friction knot.

I also hold the tail of the rope to take some of the strain off the cam for short decents.

Panic decents are very easy with the lockjack and are acheived without burning out the hitch.

Id like to give the lock jack a go but at the moment love the Hitchclimber too much. But will have a look at the trade fair.

Is it just me or dose anybody else get a sense of satisfaction when you tie up your VT correctly, it locks everytime and you get a good productive days work out of it.:001_tt1:

I know what you mean,Hitchclimber/VTs are sweet as and hard to beat when they are tuned in.The only reason I got a lockjack is because Im a Council Arborist, its the end of the financial yr and we had money left to spend on equipment.Ive always wanted to trial one.
