Brings a tear to my eye reading this. I had my beloved meg put to sleep about 2 months ago. She was a whippet / collie cross, she was my constant companion as well, time is a healer, but i do have a picture of her on my desk to remind me of her. I will get another dog one day, but i am scared that i will always compare the next one to meg.

I don't think you would compare them, every dog has its own character and in my opinion if anything happened to my dog I would get another almost immediately, its not a case of replacing it and forgetting the old one or betrayal or anything like that, but the joy that you companion brought and the hole that's it has left is too great to live without.

Very sad day when a canine family member goes. To most they literally are a best mate.
