With a helicoil spark plug repair there is no need to use a drill.

 

The kit comes with a double size thread tap.

 

The 14mm end follows what is left of the original thread and ensures that the larger helicoil tap is then perfectly lined up to cut the new thread.

 

If done correctly a helicoil provides a perfect repair.

If I tried repairing with a heli-coil and it was not successful, would I then be able to attempt a time-sert repair or would there be too much damage. Sorry if the answer is obvious but I'm not familiar with these repairs. What I really don't want to do is knacker what I already have.
