Help please, thread gone on 088

Could you find a plug with a wider thread and drill out and re-tap?

 

Same as putting in a helicoil ....

With a helicoil spark plug repair there is no need to use a drill.

 

The kit comes with a double size thread tap.

 

The 14mm end follows what is left of the original thread and ensures that the larger helicoil tap is then perfectly lined up to cut the new thread.

 

If done correctly a helicoil provides a perfect repair.

If you want the repair to last a while, removing and re-fitting a spark plug over time. In my opinion your better off going for a time-sert thread insert. Better than a helicoil. The price is a bit more ££ but worth it.

If I tried repairing with a heli-coil and it was not successful, would I then be able to attempt a time-sert repair or would there be too much damage. Sorry if the answer is obvious but I'm not familiar with these repairs. What I really don't want to do is knacker what I already have.

The insert uses a larger tap size so yes, if the helicoil fails, an insert is a good next stage of repair just make sure the old helicoil is removed before re tapping!

No Worries, the time serts are pretty solid if put in correctly with a decent cut thread, should last well now!
