you carn't do your own kit you know, Trying to save yourself a bob or too LOL:sneaky2:

I was told i couldn't do my own kit by someone else, didn't know if that was true or not! If it is i think its total bollocks to be honest, but i don't want it to do my own, my boss wants to put me through it so i can do the other 8 kits at work! Better he pays for my kit to be examined and i do 8 of em rather than pay for 9 everytime!

I don't think you would be considered "in partial".

They would say you may feel under presser to "go easy" on your bosses gear.

Would it make sense for a taxi firm to be able to do their own MOT's??

If they are qualified to do MOT's, then yes! I'm sure if someone owned a taxi firm and a garage there would be no problem there!

I would never turn a blind eye or go easy on my bosses gear, i would be 100% by the book! Are you saying i will not be allowed to inspect other employees equipment? Is this definate mate, or just your opinion? Cheers.

As I said "I think".

I'm sure I read or heard that you have to have the inspection done by some one who is not in "fear or favor" or some thing of the sort, IE, if you have an interest in the firm you are not seen as impartial.

If your boss is friendly with another firm, they could do yours and you theirs, just a thought :001_smile:

This comes from the HSE information sheet 29

LOLER: How the regulations apply to forestry.

"Thorough examination will normally be carried out by an

independent competent person from outside your

business, such as an engineer from the supplier or

manufacturer of the equipment or an independent

examining engineer from an insurance company or

specialist forestry engineering company.

You should ensure that the person chosen to act as the

competent person for the thorough examination has the

appropriate practical and theoretical knowledge and

experience of the lifting equipment to be thoroughly

examined which will enable them to detect defects or

weaknesses which it is the purpose of the examination

to discover. Also they should be able to assess their

importance in relation to the safety and continued use of

the particular equipment."
